The Makeshift Miracle is an idea I've had jangling around in my brain for several years now. It's had several false starts and never had the potential to reach a wider audience, until now with this website.
Part 5: Bringing It Back
After moving across the country twice, I was finally able to settle in Calgary, Alberta in January of 2000. Once I was able to get comfortable and set up my studio space, I wanted to get back into drawing in a big way. I'd accepted a position as an instructor at a Multimedia school in Calgary, and knew that I would need to push my skills further than they had previously been. All of that left little time for personal projects like Makeshift Miracle.
Still, after a few months of getting used to the new job, I was sketching a lot in the evenings. Although I was drawing all kinds of different subject matter, I would eventually tread over familiar terrain.
A Familiar Face
Colby looked a little older, but I liked some of the flexibility in his expressions. It seemed to have potential. A few weeks later, I was getting a stronger grasp of Photoshop and thought I'd try coloring one of my sketches to see how much I'd learned...
Makeshift In Color
I filed both images away and thought about the possibilities, but wasn't sure how much time I could commit to working on it or how I would pitch it around. It would sit for another year until I struck upon the solution.
